Hey there, and welcome to a quick overview of the drawing process behind Gerald!
This is just an overview, like ive said, nothing crazy but i do think it will strengthen your knowledge and skills when applied. Each step is something that will take more than a few hours to get right during individual practice but combined it will take your portraits to another level! I would also recommend more practice from other sources and teachers. No course, institution or person can teach you everything!
Okay onto the steps and tips!
Step 1:

If you are interested, i do have a skull anatomy and drawing course that covers all of the drawing behind skulls and its forms: https://www.artstation.com/a/34167284
Step 2:

Step 3:

Step 4:

Step 5:

I didnt really cover this in the picture but here im not just randomly drawing lines in, im using the plane changes to dictate where the shading will go to show the forms better; this comes with a TON of practice!!
Step 5.1:

Step 5.2:

Step 5.3:

As you can see, the idea behind DV DP is the key force that drives shading; this is something you will work on for rest of your drawing career like gesture, sketching etc. Its just one of those things...
Step 6:

Step 7:

Step 8:

Self Critique:

Finals:

And yeah, thats pretty much it! Not really diving too deep into anything but just laying out a map for you to follow and navigate.
Next its up to you to find the mentors and tutorials to improves on the points mentioned; gesture, planes, quicksketches, anatomy, linework. Not necessarily in that order but yeah, a good place to start your journey! Also, one last tip, dont get too caught up in each section, if gesture is starting to feel stale, move on to shading or quicksketching; its okay to jump around!
Hey, it's me again!
